The decades long failings of Penn Station are systemic and not just about the station itself. Only by improving the way trains move through the station can we tangibly improve the passenger experience. To address these issues, Rebuild Penn Station is building upon the work of ReThinkNYC, a transportation infrastructure think tank that has created a brilliant transportation plan for the entire New York metropolitan region. For an overview of that plan, called the Regional Unified Network (RUN), click here.

One for the most serious problem with Penn Station is the speed and ease by which passengers can board and exit trains. ReThinkNYC's plan will widen platforms and triple the number of escalators, which will vastly increase the pace of passenger circulation. This will prevent the current mad rush to trains.
